PASSENGER WINTER WEATHER TIPS

Metro Transit recognizes our responsibility to the public to provide reliable, Metro Transit Service during the winter months.  When Severe Inclement Weather conditions exist, it is our goal to create a plan that will assure adequate service while responding immediately and effectively to hazardous road conditions.

Metro Metropolitan Route Service will respond to Severe Inclement Weather conditions using three Route Alert designations.  Please turn to your local Public Service television station, check the Metro web site: www.qcmetrolink.com, or call 788-3360 to find out which Route Alert Metro Transit has implemented in response to severe weather conditions. During Severe Inclement Weather, passengers should consider leaving one hour early for important appointments, jobs, and meetings where timeliness is crucial.

Level 1 Yellow Limited Route Alert

A Level 1 Yellow Route Alert will be issued by Metro Transit when weather conditions change requiring the Operators to reduce driving speed while exercising additional caution.  There will be no route modifications during a Metro Level 1 Yellow Route Alert.  However during a Level 1 Yellow Route Alert, buses may be running 10 to 15 minutes late.

Level 2 Blue Limited Route Alert

A Level 2 Blue Route Alert will be issued by Metro Transit when Inclement Weather conditions exist.  During a Level 2 Blue Route Alert routes will be slightly modified to respond to hazardous street conditions.

Level 3 Red Limited Route Alert

A Level 3 Red Route Alert will be issued by Metro Transit when Severe Inclement Weather conditions exist.  During a Level 3 Red Route Alert routes will be restricted to only those streets that are deemed passable in response to extremely hazardous road conditions.

Winter Attire

It is vital that passengers wear adequate winter attire when waiting on the bus.  It is important to protect the hands, feet, and head, and to wear layered non-restrictive clothing for additional warmth. Passengers must be prepared to wait 15 to 30 minutes during Severe Inclement Weather conditions.

Waiting on the bus

During the winter months finding a safe convenient place to stand to wait for the bus can be difficult.  Passengers should be prepared to walk an additional block or two to find a practical location to stand to wait for the bus.  Avoid standing in puddles of water, standing on large piles of snow, or standing in the street when ever possible.   If at all possible stand near a corner where the driver can see you. Passengers should watch for the bus and use hand motions to let the Operator know that you want to ride the bus.  Upon arrival of the bus, passengers should wait for it to come to a complete stop before moving toward it to board.  After twilight, try to wait for the bus in an area that is well lit.  Whenever possible, carry a small flashlight to get the attention of the Operator.  Wave the flashlight, but do not shine the flashlight directly into the face of the Operator.  Passengers should have their money ready to drop into the fare box upon boarding.  Always ask for your transfer as soon as you board the bus. Exercise caution in and near the bus when boarding and de-boarding. Always remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop.

Bus Rider Etiquette

·         No smoking or eating while riding the bus.

·         Radio, cassette and compact disc playing is prohibited.

·         Seats immediately behind the Operator are reserved for senior and disabled passengers.

·         Please no feet or legs on seats.
