Our Organization

Throughout the Illinois Quad Cities, the Rock Island County Metropolitan Mass Transit District, commonly known as MetroLINK, is moving Quad Citians from one destination to another.

The organization provides Metro bus service, ADA paratransit and Special Transportation Services, and seasonal passenger ferryboat service with the Channel Cat Water Taxi. Communities we serve include Moline, Rock Island, East Moline, Silvis, Milan, Carbon Cliff, Hampton, and Colona.

The 3.5 million rides a year taken on MetroLINK services provide a vital connection to jobs, education, healthcare, and retail; supporting our local economy and creating a vibrant quality of life. Our multi-modal organization keeps riders moving in the right direction, while easing traffic congestion and reducing air pollution—making the Quad Cities a better place to live.

We're Nationally Recognized

MetroLINK was honored by the American Public Transit Association (APTA) as the Outstanding Public Transit System of the Year for all agencies in North America carrying between 1-4 million passengers annually. Called the "best of the best" in the industry, APTA presents the award to just three transit systems annually who have served as outstanding role models of excellence, leadership, and innovation over a three-year period.

The award was based on identifiable performance data related to MetroLINK's operational and financial management, safety record, customer service delivery, ridership growth, innovative and sustainable practices, workforce development, and community involvement.
We're Committed to a Sustainable Quad Cities
An efficient transit system encourages new development and livable communities by making access to employment easier and reducing traffic congestion and emissions. It's an essential ingredient to improving the economic and social quality of life in the Quad Cities.

Many years ago MetroLINK made a commitment to be a leader in our community. In addition to impacting the local economy, the decisions we make and the way we operate will impact the environment for years to come.

Nearly our entire Metro fleet runs on clean burning, compressed natural gas. And, all new capital infrastructure is built to USGBC Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.

MetroLINK will continue to capitalize on environmental technologies, while educating residents on the cleanest and most efficient ways to use public transit. With easily accessible bus stops and bike racks on buses, the Metro makes travel cost effective and environmentally wise for every rider.

We're Growing Places
Communities across the nation are embracing public transit as a vital resource that encourages economic development, and attracts and retains a healthy and prosperous workforce. With over 60% of riders using Metro to access jobs, and 30% taking transit to colleges and K-12 schools, MetroLINK services support a growing economic region that is attractive, livable, and sustainable.

MetroLINK's capital and infrastructure investments in the Illinois Quad Cities have surpassed $40 Million over the past 5 years. MetroLINK believes investment in transit supports our local economy while building livable, walkable communities that aren't dependent upon an automobile. Learn more about our current and recently-completed projects.
